02 Feb Happy Groundhog Day!
If you didn’t realize it, today is Groundhog day. Punxsutaney Phil emerged earlier this morning, saw his shadow and predicted six more weeks of winter. Sorry those of you back East but we could really use the added winter this year out here in California, Thanks Phil.
One of my favorite movies is “Groundhog Day” with Bill Murray. If you haven’t been lucky enough to see this movie it tells the story of weatherman Phil Connors who must relive Groundhog day again and again until he final gets it right. At first Phil is obviously confused then moves on to despair at not being able to even kill himself and not have the day start right over. He finally realizes that he has been given an amazing gift. He can use this time to better himself and actually take a real and in-depth interest in those around him.
What a truly wonderful gift to have the time to do those things we have always wanted to do, to learn a new skill or take the time to get to know others. Unlike Phil Connors, we will never have the opportunity to relive our days however we can make a conscious effort now to do those things we have been putting off. Have you already given up on those New Years resolutions? Well stop right now and declare that today is the day you begin again. Don’t think about making wholesale changes in your life, just start small and see what that leads to. Like Phil Connors, you will be greatly rewarded as you slowly and steadily work toward being that better version of yourself you know you have in you.
