Let the Summer Begin

13 May Let the Summer Begin

Last week I had the opportunity to attend the Conservatory of Flowers Gala in San Francisco. It was a great evening and a special opportunity to be able to walk around the Conservatory at night and really take everything in without a crowd.

While a lot of the vegetation there is spectacular and several of the spaces are just dreamy the thing that won me over that night was the specialty cocktail being served. I can’t stop thinking about it. In fact I even texted my kids and told them I wanted the ingredients for Mother’s Day (which they of course ignored – so rude!). This meant that I was on my own to satisfy this cocktail itch of mine and get the supplies myself.

While at the store yesterday I did just that. And let me tell you, this drink couldn’t be simpler or more delicious. This will definitely be my go-to drink of the summer and should be yours also!

It consists of the following:

St. Germain (a French liqueur flavored with elderflowers). By the way, isn’t that the most beautiful bottle for a liqueur!!

Sparkling wine

Sparkling water

Twist of lemon.

That’s it! This fizzy elderflower-and-wine cocktail is a modern classic that you won’t be able to stop drinking. Simply pour a measure of St-Germain liqueur into a glass, add some Champagne to cut the sweetness, pour in some sparkling water to make it ultra-refreshing then twist in the lemon. I like to then pour this into another glass over ice to help mix it up a bit. Then sit back and enjoy!

Since I knew I would be the only one partaking yesterday and I didn’t want to waste most of a bottle of sparkling wine – or be tempted to drink the entire thing ;-), I found these mini bottles. This was the perfect amount to make one drink and meant that I could enjoy my cocktail today and still have three more mini bottles waiting for me for another time.

À la vôtre!
